Description

The Ponderosa Lodge (PL) Lifeguard ensures the safety and well-being of campers and staff swimming, and is responsible to model a genuine lifestyle of Christian discipleship, providing for campers with an experience that aligns with the MHA Youth vision and PL’s objectives in a manner consistent with MHA’s mission, vision and values.

General Qualifications:

The Ponderosa Lodge (PL) Lifeguard is a Ministerial position. Ministerial staff render their work, stewardship, relationships and behavior as evidence of being followers of Jesus Christ while embracing and affirming Mount Hermon Association, Inc.’s (MHA) mission, vision and beliefs. They are responsible for defining, cultivating and leading MHA’s Christian community, conference programs, and retreats.

Key Job Accountabilities:

  • Assist in the intake and screening of campers weekly.
  • Ensure safety and well-being of all campers and staff using the pools, while enforcing pool rules within discipline philosophy of MHA Youth.
  • Care for and maintain all pool areas, keeping logs and readings accurate and up to date.
  • Promptly report any hazards or dangerous situations to the PL Lifeguard Lead.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the PL Lifeguard Lead.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None

*Summer Staff, exempt.

Qualifications

Education/Certifications/Licenses:

  • College experience preferred.
  • Possess a minimum of ARC CPR (infant, child, adult), AED and First Aid.
  • Lifeguard certification

Work Experience:

  • Prior lifeguard experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to articulate the gospel of Jesus Christ as communicated in Scripture.
  • Ability to demonstrate a personal, committed and thought-through faith in Christ.
  • Kayak, surfing or ocean guarding preferred.
  • Ability to serve others in a gracious, caring manner.
  • Excellent administrative skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to engage in a variety of outdoor activities.

Physical Demands:

  • The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
  • The employee is frequently required to run, swim, stand, sit for long periods and use steep trails and stairs.
  • The employee is frequently required climb, balance, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch or crawl
  • The physical environment requires the employee to talk and hear both in person from close and long distances and by phone or radio.
  • The employee may be required to lift, push or pull persons or equipment over 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision requirements of this job include close vision, distance vision, use of both eyes, ability to distinguish basic colors and shades; depth perception, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age due to the requirement for onsite community living.
  • Must agree to and comply with MHA’s employee driving guidelines for MHA-owned vehicles and use of personal vehicles for business purposes.
  • Adherence to the basic principles as expressed in MHA’s Mission, Vision, Values and Commitment statements.
  • Adherence to company dress code and professional standards for personal grooming and appearance.
  • Commitment to spending time serving campers and helping to create a great experience for them.
  • Satisfactory completion of background investigation as well as ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
